Ten Powerful Antioxidant Essential Oils

Antioxidant Essential Oils

Every day we are exposed to a barrage of harmful environmental toxins; things such as: industrial pollution, cigarette smoke, pesticides, household and commercial chemicals, and even radiation.

free radical noun. an especially reactive atom or group of atoms that has one or more unpaired electrons; especiallyone that is produced in the body by natural biological processes or introduced from an outside source (such as tobacco smoke, toxins, or pollutants) and that can damage cells, proteins, and DNA by altering their chemical structure Definition by Merriam-Webster.com.

Free radicals are naturally produced in our bodies due to cell metabolism and energy production and are a natural response to harmful toxins. However, when we reach high levels of free radicals in the body,  the body cannot process and eliminate them on its own. High levels of free radicals then start interacting and interfering  with the cells of the body. As a result, the free radicals begin to steal electrons from the healthy cells. As the free radicals build up, they affect the DNA of the cells and are the leading contributor to a host of  many chronic disorders. When healthy cells are compromised and altered by free radicals, they can no longer do their job of protecting the body from infections or fight off infections.

antioxidant noun.  an·ti·ox·i·dant  \ ˌan-tē-ˈäk-sə-dənt , ˌan-ˌtī- \  a substance (such as beta-carotene or vitamin C) that inhibits oxidation or reactions promoted by oxygen, peroxides, or free radicals. Definition by Merriam-Webster.com.

Antioxidants are the heroes that ride in and save the body from high levels of free radicals. Antioxidants run a strong defense against the free radicals and protect the cells. Antioxidants donate their extra electrons to the free radicals so that they will stop attacking the cells. This prevents and reverses the oxidative damage that free radicals cause on the body. Now there are different types of antioxidants, some boost the immune system and help the body fight off infections and kill cancer cells, or target harmful metals. While others, reverse the damage or any signs of aging caused by damaged cells.

HOW TO GET MORE ANTIOXIDANTS?

Living a healthy lifestyle and eating a good, clean diet with plenty of fresh organic fruits, vegetables, nuts, herbs, teas, etc., along with daily exercise can help the body receive and produce antioxidants.

TYPES OF ANTIOXIDANTS

ALA – A free radical scavenger that helps eliminate harmful metals from the body and brain. Alzheimer’s has been linked to high levels of metals in the brain.

CoQ10 – is used by every cell in the body and helps produce more energy for the cells.  This is important for supporting the heart, nervous system, and maintaining blood pressure.

Resveratrol – is an important antioxidant in that it helps the body to fight the spread of cancer, lowers blood pressure, supports heart function, and regulates the body’s inflammatory responses.

Vitamin C – A common supplement, it helps fight against oxidative damage and helps the protect the cells from the damage that has occurred.
